Gently scrub the surface of the filter for a few minutes with a scouring pad. Do NOT use soap or cleaning products on the filter. Prime the filters again and reinstall them according to the instructions.\n\n#### Lifespan of the BOROUX Foundation Black filter\n\nThe BOROUX Foundation Black filter is designed for long-term use. However, the actual lifespan of the filter depends on various factors, such as:\n\n● the quality of the water;\n\n● the contaminants present and their concentrations;\n\n● daily water consumption;\n\n● the substances you specifically want to filter.\n\nBOROUX gives a general replacement recommendation, based on a broad group of users and water qualities. In practice, the optimal replacement period can differ from user to user.\n\nBased on our experience with Dutch tap water, we advise replacing the filter after a **maximum** of three years with average use and tap water. This is a practical guideline and not a fixed replacement period.\n\nIf you use water with higher concentrations of certain contaminants (for example water from other sources), have a high water consumption or want to retain maximum certainty for specific substances, you are better off replacing the filters sooner.\n\nIf you want to determine exactly when replacement is needed, only periodic analysis of the filtered water can give a definitive answer.\n\n**Please note:** test results and maximum capacities differ per contaminant.
