"short_description": "BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements use their advanced filtration technology to reduce, among other things, heavy metals, pharmaceutical residues, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, PFAS, VOCs, microplastics and disinfection contaminants.",
"description": "BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements fit most popular gravity water filter systems, such as Berkey, British Berkefeld, ProOne, Phoenix Gravity, Aqua Logic, Monderma, Pure Filters and Newton. The filter elements are designed for long-term use and are fitted with Stem Saver technology for extra durability during use and cleaning.\n\nThese BOROUX filters reduce, among other things, more than 99% of chlorine, heavy metals, pharmaceutical contaminants (medication residues), pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, plastic and industrial contaminants (PFAS), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), microplastics and disinfection contaminants. The essential minerals your body needs are retained.\n\n#### Advanced filtration for a healthier life\n\nThe advanced filter technology does not just filter the water, it transforms it. By removing more than 99% of harmful contaminants, BOROUX Foundation Black filters make sure your water is as pure and refreshing as nature intended. Every reduction of a contaminant contributes to an improvement in your health and wellbeing!\n\nThe filters consist of, among other things, a special mix of activated carbon. The BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements contain silver, an antimicrobial agent, to prevent micro-organisms from affecting the product itself. These filters are not intended to filter micro-organisms.\n\nThey are also so powerful that they can remove red dyes from water without removing the useful minerals your body needs.\n\n#### Test reports and certification\n\nThe BOROUX Foundation Black filters have been tested by an independent laboratory (IAPMO R&T Lab NJ, ISO/IEC 17025) according to NSF/ANSI standards 42, 53 and 401. See all [test reports](https://www.alternatievemiddelen.nl/ufaq/laboratorium-testresultaten-van-de-boroux-waterfilter/) for more details, with clarity and transparency coming first.\n\nBOROUX water filter systems and filters are Gold Seal certified by the Water Quality Association (WQA), the oldest independent certification body in the water filter industry. Products must meet strict testing requirements to be certified: industry standards (NSF/ANSI/CAN), annual audits of the production facility and compliance with the WQA's certification schemes. Verification and validation through an independent testing process offers the assurance that consumers deserve.\n\nThey are certified for:\n\n✔ NSF/ANSI 42: Appearance, taste, odour and nominal particulate class I ([view the certification](https://find.wqa.org/find-products/ctl/detail/mid/1054/cid/james_enterprise_inc/sid/1/keyword/boroux))\n\n✔ NSF/ANSI 372: Lead-free materials ([view the certification](https://find.wqa.org/find-products/ctl/detail/mid/1054/cid/james_enterprise_inc/sid/29/keyword/boroux))\n\n✔ NSF/ANSI/CAN 401: Microplastics ranging in size from ≥ 0.5 µm to < 1 µm ([view the certification](https://find.wqa.org/find-products/ctl/detail/mid/1054/cid/james_enterprise_inc/sid/63/keyword/boroux))\n\nThese important achievements underline their commitment to delivering safe, high-quality and effective water filtration solutions. This certification is not just a hallmark: it shows that their products meet the strict standards of NSF International (NSF) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), globally recognised organisations that safeguard public health and the safety of consumer products.\n\n#### Compatible with other brands\n\nThe BOROUX Foundation Black filter is carefully designed to integrate seamlessly with most gravity water filtration systems, including Berkey, British Berkefeld, ProOne, Phoenix Gravity, Aqua Logic, Monderma, Pure Filters, Newton and more. Whether you are renewing the filters in your existing setup or starting a new journey in water wellness, the filters are designed for broad compatibility with gravity water filters.\n\nA BOROUX water filter (BOROUX Legacy or BOROUX Legacy Compact) comes as standard with 2 original BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements. You can optionally expand the BOROUX Legacy water filter to 4 filter elements.\n\n#### The box of the BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements contains the following parts:\n\n● 2x BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements\n\n● 2x [Black rubber rings](https://www.alternatievemiddelen.nl/producten/ring-voor-black-berkey-filterelementen/): to fit between the filter element and the stainless steel container\n\n● 2x [Wing nuts](https://www.alternatievemiddelen.nl/producten/vleugelmoer-voor-black-berkey-filterelementen/): for tightening the filter element\n\n● 1x [Priming Button](https://www.alternatievemiddelen.nl/producten/priming-button-black-berkey-elementen/): brown rubber ring for priming the filter elements with the tap\n\n● 1x [PrimeRite Universal Primer](https://www.alternatievemiddelen.nl/producten/berkey-primerrite-universal-primer-pf-2-adapter/): blue rubber attachment for the tap, for priming the filter elements\n\n● 1x English-language manual (a Dutch manual can be downloaded in [our library](https://www.alternatievemiddelen.nl/de-bieb/) and is also sent by email after your order)\n\n**Getting ready for use**\n\nThe first step is priming the filter elements. It is important that this is done properly, otherwise purifying the water takes a very long time. For all information about BOROUX water filters, please see our [library](https://www.alternatievemiddelen.nl/de-bieb/), where you will find manuals, instruction videos and answers to frequently asked questions, among other things. If priming with the tap does not work, you can order an [automatic primer pump](https://www.alternatievemiddelen.nl/producten/boroux-automatische-filter-primer-pomp/) or [manual primer pump](https://www.alternatievemiddelen.nl/producten/black-berkey-primer/) from us.\n\n#### Maintaining the BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements\n\nScrub the BOROUX Foundation Black filters every 3-6 months. Gently scrub the surface of the filters for a few minutes with a scouring pad. Do NOT use soap or cleaning products on the filters. Prime the filters again and reinstall them according to the instructions.\n\n#### Lifespan of the BOROUX Foundation Black filters\n\nThe BOROUX Foundation Black filters are designed for long-term use. However, the actual lifespan of the filters depends on various factors, such as:\n\n● the quality of the water;\n\n● the contaminants present and their concentrations;\n\n● daily water consumption;\n\n● the substances you specifically want to filter.\n\nBOROUX gives a general replacement recommendation, based on a broad group of users and water qualities. In practice, the optimal replacement period can differ from user to user.\n\nBased on our experience with Dutch tap water, we advise replacing the filters after a **maximum** of three years with average use and tap water. This is a practical guideline and not a fixed replacement period.\n\nIf you use water with higher concentrations of certain contaminants (for example water from other sources), have a high water consumption or want to retain maximum certainty for specific substances, you are better off replacing the filters sooner.\n\nIf you want to determine exactly when replacement is needed, only periodic analysis of the filtered water can give a definitive answer.\n\n**Please note:** test results and maximum capacities differ per contaminant. Always consult the most up-to-date information and [BOROUX test results](https://www.alternatievemiddelen.nl/ufaq/laboratorium-testresultaten-van-de-boroux-waterfilter/) for this.",
