How to do the red dye test
Are your filter elements still performing well? The red dye test gives you the answer.
This video has music and Dutch text in the picture. The English translation of that text is on as subtitles; German is under the CC button.
About this video
Not sure whether your filter elements still perform at their best? The red dye test answers that question. The test is meant for Berkey and BOROUX filter elements and checks that the installation is right and that the elements have no defect.
- Start with an empty water filter system.
- Remove any fluoride filters.
- Place a glass under each filter element.
- Mix red dye with water (3 drops per litre).
- Pour this water into the water filter.
- Let it filter and check the result (a few litres is enough).
Only use the original red dye for this test, and never pour the dye directly onto the filters.
