About this product

The BOROUX Automatic Filter Primer Pump simplifies the priming process of the BOROUX Foundation™ Black elements, Black Berkey elements or BOROUX Proactive™ Fluoride Filters and turns an annoying task into a quick and effortless 90-second process. On a full battery charge, this primer pump runs for at least 10 priming cycles. Prime your filters quickly and efficiently, without needing a tap of the right size or risking splashes. The filters fit in the primer pump, press a button and voilà… Enjoy clean, clear water from the very first use!

This new method of priming is a more consistent way to get a perfectly primed filter every time!

What is priming?

Priming the filters means that the filters are fully saturated with water before use. This is necessary for the filters to work properly. Both the BOROUX Foundation™ Black elements, the Black Berkey elements and the BOROUX Proactive™ Fluoride Filters are made of, among other things, activated carbon, which has minuscule pores. Water must be forced through all the micropores so that all the carbon is wet.

What happens if I use the filters without priming?

The biggest problem when the filters are not primed, or not primed sufficiently, is a slow flow rate. The filters work best when they are wet. When they are dry, the water does not flow through the micropores properly. A set of filters typically has a flow rate of around 4 litres per hour. Without proper priming, it can take much longer, or not work at all. Priming also helps to remove any dust or residue from production. This process flushes it away, which solves the problem of cloudy water.

What tools are there for priming?

For priming you can use a Priming Button (a small rubber ring) or the PrimeRite (a blue rubber spout). With these tools you can let water run through the filter element using a tap. They are supplied in the box as standard with the BOROUX Foundation™ Black elements, Black Berkey elements and BOROUX Proactive™ Fluoride Filters. If you have lost them, they can be reordered separately from us. If priming with the tap does not work, the tap is not suitable, or you want to make things easier for yourself, you can use this BOROUX Automatic Filter Primer Pump or the Black Berkey Primer.

How the BOROUX Automatic Filter Primer Pump works

Attach one filter to the underside of the pump. To attach the filter element, remove the wing nut but leave the ring in place. Then screw the filter into the primer pump. If you want to prime the BOROUX Proactive™ Fluoride Filters, first attach the blue priming adapter and the blue priming ring, and then screw these into the pump. Fill the lower container of your water filter with water. Hook the primer pump with the filter element onto the rim of the lower container, with the filter submerged in the water. Make sure the water level is exactly at the waterline marked on the pump. Switch the pump on and then press the prime button on top. A countdown timer starts, which stops automatically after 90 seconds. Unscrew your filter element as soon as the pump has finished and it is primed!
