Black Berkey water filter element – Berkey is one of the best-selling brands of water filters and purification systems in the world and is recommended by various health magazines, laboratories and independent health websites. There are millions of satisfied customers around the world.

Berkey water filters filter out more than 99.9% of chlorine, viruses, bacteria, cysts, medicine residues, parasites and hazardous chemical contaminants. Heavy metals are filtered out by 95% (up to 100% even with fluoride and arsenic filters). The essential minerals your body needs are retained.

As an official Berkey dealer, we only sell the original Black Berkey filter elements.

The Black Berkey filter element is unique

This filter element uses the latest technological developments in water purification. Berkey water filters are therefore regarded as the best and most durable water filter systems on the market and are the best-performing portable water filters.

All Berkey water filters are supplied as standard with 2 original Black Berkey filter elements, except for the Go Berkey water filter set. You can order the elements in pairs, but with us you can also order a single element. Very handy if, for example, you want to replace the element in the Go Berkey, or if only one filter element in another Berkey water filter needs replacing (for example due to damage or loss).

The Black Berkey water filter element is one of the best gravity filter elements in the world. Berkey systems with these elements remove far more than standard water filters. A solid carbon block made from natural coconut shell, the micropores in the Black Berkey elements are so small that bacteria simply cannot pass through them. They are also so powerful that they can remove red dyes from water without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs.

The Black Berkey filter element also removes or reduces viruses, pathogenic cysts, parasites, harmful or unwanted chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides, VOCs, detergents, organic solvents, turbidity, trihalomethanes, silt, sediment, heavy metals, and subtle tastes and odours, but they leave in the healthy and beneficial minerals your body needs. They have been tested by an independent laboratory according to NSF/ANSI standards 42 and 53. See the laboratory report for more details.

Each Black Berkey element filters a maximum of 11,350 litres of water. With 2 filters, average use and proper maintenance of the filters, you can expect a service life of between 5 and 10 years. However, we recommend replacing the Black Berkey filters at least every 3 years. We now live in a different time than a few years ago. The number of contaminants has only increased and they have become ever more severe (think of PFAS, or the considerable increase in medicine residues, pesticides, etc.). This has an enormous effect on the filters, which is why it is better to replace them somewhat sooner.

The Black Berkey filter element box contains the following parts:

● 1x Black rubber ring: to go between the filter element and the stainless steel container

● 1x Wing nut: for tightening the filter element

● 1x Priming Button: brown rubber ring for priming the filter elements with the tap.

● 1x Berkey PrimeRite Universal Primer + PF-2 adapter: blue rubber attachment for the tap to prime the filter elements, with an adapter so that the Fluoride & Arsenic filters can also be primed

● 1x English-language instruction manual

Getting ready for use

The first step is priming the Black Berkey filter elements. It is important that this is done properly, otherwise purifying the water takes a very long time. If priming with the tap does not work, you can order an automatic primer pump or manual primer pump from us.
